Steps in the Scientific Research Grant Application Process

  1. Read the Guidelines for Scientific Research Application.
  2. If your institution has not submitted a proposal for support of research to the Murdock Trust in the last five years, please email Dr. Moses Lee before continuing the application process.

  4. Upon review and approval of the LOI, an invitation will be sent for you to begin the process of a full application.
  5. Thoroughly read through the Scientific Research Application Instructions and Checklist.
  6. Login to complete the application and upload the required attachments.

Completing the Application Process

  1. If your LOI appears to be eligible for Trust consideration, you will be invited to prepare and submit a full application in the grants portal.
  2. Thoroughly read through the Scientific Research Application Instructions and Checklist.
  3. Login to the grants portal to complete the application and upload the required attachments. Please use these templates: Proposal Narrative (Dept Information-Section A) and Scientific Research app Suggested Reviewers. Commercialization Initiation Program

Commercialization Initiation

Launched in 2015, and expanded in 2020, this program supports the commercialization of bench discoveries—critical work that help bring valuable research discoveries—to market at a select group of major research universities and biomedical research institutes in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. We consider only each institution’s highest-priority project from the natural sciences, medicine and engineering, and we look to support projects that create a true inflection point for commercialization. (We will not consider projects designed only to generate data for a subsequent research grant application.)

Invitations to submit proposals will be emailed to all eligible institutions in early spring. Use the link in the invitation email to apply. Thoroughly read the Commercialization Initiation Application Instructions and Checklist. Login to the grants portal to complete the application and upload the required attachments. Please use this template: CI Proposal Narrative (Sections A-E). Please note: the proposal narrative should be downloaded in .docx format to preserve the correct formatting.

Deadline: June 1

Awards Announced: Late August
