M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust

We are thrilled to congratulate Dr. David Baker of the University of Washington for being awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Dr. Baker’s groundbreaking research in computational protein design will equip scientists to approach challenges in medicine and technology in innovative ways.

“To have played even a small part in supporting Dr. Baker’s research is an incredible honor for the Murdock Trust,” says Dr. Moses Lee, Vice President of Scientific Research Grants & Programs at the Murdock Trust. “While we see impact from every grant we support, recognition of this caliber for one of our region’s most stellar researchers is an exciting occasion indeed – the ultimate recognition of impactful, transformative research.”

In 2017, the Trust supported a grant for the purchase of a Titan Krios cryo-TEM, a fully automated cryo-electron microscope, that contributed to Dr. Baker’s research. This is one of more than 110 grants and $27.3 million given to the University of Washington that sought to equip researchers and prepare future scientists for discoveries and research just like Dr. Baker’s: science that is leading-edge, innovative, and truly in service of the common good.

Congratulations, Dr. Baker, and may your good work continue to flourish!
