It is a bittersweet moment for the Murdock Trust team as we must announce that Mark Pyatt has shared plans to transition away from his role as our Investment Officer in the coming months. An exemplary employee of the Trust for more than 14 years, Mark has an opportunity to take the skills and expertise he has honed here and bring them to support other groups in the philanthropic space.
“Mark possesses many important qualities that have helped him flourish in his contributions to the mission and work of the Trust. Arguably the most important of these is that he has a servant’s heart. He wants to use his time, his skills, and his energy to help lift others. While it is incredibly hard for us to see him move on to a new challenge, we are heartened and inspired to know that he is making this transition to bring his knowledge and expertise to help others in our philanthropic community thrive,” said Elmer Huh, Chief Investment Officer, M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust.
A graduate of Oregon State University, Mark began his career at Raymond James before joining the Trust as an Investment Analyst in 2008. He was then promoted to Investment Officer in 2014. Through his tenure at the Trust, Mark has helped steward the foundation’s corpus through multiple challenging economic moments, built and nurtured important relationships with investment managers, served as a support and resource through our 2017 CIO transition, and been a central figure in the culture of the Trust as an organization.
“Mark has played a core role in the Trust’s investment strategy for more than 14 years,” added Huh. “Our investment team’s goal is to always be the best client possible for our investment managers. Mark has embraced this philosophy in every way. You could not ask for a better partner, colleague, and friend. We have been fortunate to have him in our offices for nearly a decade-and-a-half and we are so proud to see him tackle this new challenge.”
Mark will continue to serve with the Trust into spring of 2023 to help support a thoughtful transition that ensures a smooth hand off for all our partners and team.
From all of us here at the Trust, thank you Mark for your tireless service to our mission. We look forward to working alongside you for the common good!
